When you look at me, what do you see… a young African American female trying to navigate through this systematically oppressive world that she lives in, or the stereotypical “Black Girl”. Well, I am both!
My name is Alana McClellan and I am an 18-year-old, from Washington, D.C. Raised in the North West quadrant of D.C., I experienced what it mean to be living in color in the United States of America; in this world. Throughout my grade-school years, I was able to discover my identity by simply being black in America. Living through the eyes of poverty, racism, gentrification, discrimination, homelessness, and so much more… I am able to tell my story and be a voice for the rest of my community; The Black Community.
